Benoît Müller

BENOIT MULLER, DIRECTOR, COPYRIGHT MANAGEMENT DIVISION, WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANIZATION (WIPO)

Benoît Müller serves as the Director of WIPO’s Copyright Management Division (CMD). Reporting to the Deputy Director General for Copyright and the Creative Industries, he manages a team of experts and guides WIPO’s technical assistance activities on copyright and related rights management, including the development and deployment of the WIPO Connect IT solution. He also oversees the development and implementation of the Accessible Books Consortium and WIPO for Creators, two of WIPO’s flagship public-private partnerships.

Prior to joining WIPO in March 2018, Benoît Müller worked for ten years as attorney at the Bar of Geneva and principally acted as a consultant on multilateral and national policy initiatives in the field of intellectual property, culture and development. He advised clients in the creative industries and worked as a consultant to WIPO. He also counseled clients establishing international legal structures and developed expertise in technology standards intellectual property issues.

Before launching his private practice in 2008, BM acted as Director Software Policy Europe, Business Software Alliance (Brussels, 2004-2008), Secretary General, International Publishers Association (Geneva, 2000-2003) and Legal Counsel, International Publishers Association (Geneva, 1996-2000). BM served on the boards of the International Digital Object Identifier Foundation (1999-2003); the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organizations (2001-2003); the Schweizer Forum für Kommunikationsrecht (2003-2004).

BM holds a University of Geneva law degree (1992), master of law and authorization to practice as attorney at the Bar of Geneva (1995).
